Capturing the World Through Dylan’s Lens: A Journey in Photography

Photography is more than a career for Dylan—it’s a way of seeing the world. From humble beginnings to capturing moments that resonate with audiences, Dylan has made a name for himself as a photographer with a distinct style and an unwavering passion for his craft. Here’s an inside look at his journey, inspirations, and creative process.

Finding Inspiration Abroad

Dylan’s path to photography wasn’t immediate. It wasn’t until his third year of college, during a study abroad program in Spain, that his passion truly ignited. A photojournalism class opened his eyes to the power of the camera as a creative tool. “It taught me how to use the camera not just as a tool, but as an extension of my creative vision,” Dylan reflects. From that point forward, he began honing his skills, bringing an ever-evolving perspective to each new project.

A Unique Style Rooted in the Mundane

Dylan’s photography style is defined by its ability to uncover beauty in everyday life. “I believe that beauty lies in the details,” he says. His work focuses on the extraordinary within the ordinary, capturing subtle moments that often go unnoticed. This approach invites viewers to see the world through a new lens, transforming the seemingly mundane into something remarkable.

Influences that Shape His Vision

Dylan credits photographers Peter McKinnon and Joshua Amirthasing for shaping his artistic perspective. From McKinnon, he learned the art of framing and capturing the emotional essence of a scene. Amirthasing, on the other hand, inspired him to freeze moments in time, creating images that feel timeless. Together, their influence has left an indelible mark on Dylan’s creative approach.

Behind the Scenes with The World Is Small

One of Dylan’s recent highlights was working on this season's shoot for The World Is Small (TWIS). “The process was smooth, honestly one of the best experiences I’ve had as a photographer,” he shares. Given creative freedom, Dylan experimented with various scenarios to create visuals that both he and the brand are excited about. Los Angeles also played a vital role in the project, with the city’s vibrant creative culture serving as a backdrop and constant source of inspiration.

Overcoming Challenges on Set

Every shoot comes with its hurdles, and Dylan has learned to navigate them with calm and efficiency. “The best thing you can do in this industry is prepare for everything,” he explains. Whether it’s unexpected weather or technical difficulties, staying adaptable and problem-solving on the spot has been key to his success.

Defining Moments

Of all his experiences, one that stands out is photographing a concert for The Driver Era at his university. The high-energy environment pushed him to experiment with angles and techniques, offering unique perspectives from the stage, the crowd, and backstage. “The fast-paced environment and the excitement of having access to get shots I wanted was a feeling I continuously have when working on different projects,” Dylan says, fondly recalling the event.

Advice for Aspiring Photographers

For those hoping to break into the fashion industry, Dylan advises starting small. “Reach out to up-and-coming brands or collaborate with friends on fashion shoots,” he suggests. Social media can be a powerful tool for making connections, and while not every opportunity will be the right fit, persistence can lead to a breakthrough.

Tools of the Trade

Ask Dylan about his must-have equipment, and he’ll mention two essentials: his camera body and a 24-70mm lens. “The body of the camera allows me to create my art and express myself, while the 24-70mm lens lets me adapt to any circumstances required for a project,” he explains.

Looking Ahead

Dylan’s aspirations for the future reflect his drive to expand his skills and leave a mark on the creative world. “In the coming years, I have made it my goal to become an essential part of a set, whether that’s for a film, commercial, or photo shoot,” he shares. By continuing to push creative boundaries, Dylan aims to contribute to projects that tell powerful stories and inspire others.

Dylan’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of art and determination. From Spain to Los Angeles, his work continues to remind us that the beauty of life often lies in the details.
